Position Summary

Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) is among the top cancer treatment and research centers in the United States. Description of project: Our group seeks to employ two Research Associates to developed a series of new and novel NQO1 bioactivatable drugs. Recently, we showed that in combination with specific PARP inhibitors, including si/shRNA methods of knocking down PARP1, we could selectively kill pancreatic, non-small cell lung and breast cancers in an NQO1-dependent, tumor selective manner (Huang et al., Cancer Cell, 2016). Our new NQO1 bioactivatable drugs, based on deoxynyboquinone (DNQ) (Huang et al., Cancer Res., 2012), are 10- to 20-fold more potent and work synergistically with respect to NQO1 expression and loss of PARP1 activity. Research Associates positions are available for highly motivated individuals with a background in protein biochemistry, enzymology, molecular biology, pharmacology, genetics and cell biology to examine the effects of PARP inhibitors + NQO1 bioactivatable drug treatments on DNA double strand break repair, metabolism and lethality and efficacy against pancreas, non-small cell lung and breast cancers. Similar studies have been published: Chakrabarti et al, Cancer and Metabolism 2015, Chakrabarti et al., Scientific Reports, 2015 and Huang et al., Cancer Cell, 2016.

Basic Qualifications

Applicants should have a PhD and/or MD with strong laboratory and analytical skills. Apart from biochemical, molecular biology and cell culture techniques, hands-on experience in pathological, metabolic, toxicity and tumor related studies in mice/rats and treatments with small molecules required. Knowledge of CRISPR technology or proteomics-mass spectrometry would be an added advantage. The ability to work independently to produce high-quality data and being an organized and enthusiastic scientist is most important.
