Position Summary

IU East at a Glance

Indiana University East, Richmond, IN, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish position in the World Languages and Cultures Program, to begin August 2018. Tenure-track faculty will design innovative face-to-face and online courses. The teaching load will be 3/3 annually, contributing to the BA in Spanish and to related programs, such as the International Studies degree. In addition to teaching undergraduate courses, faculty conduct research, mentor students in professional development, and participate in department, campus, or university level service. Candidates are expected to contribute to the expansion of unique undergraduate experiences for students, such as study abroad. The World Languages and Cultures Program currently offers a major and a minor in Spanish. Learn more about the World Languages and Cultures Department here.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities :

Teach courses offered online and in person, including Spanish Language, Hispanic Civilization, and other intermediate and upper-level courses in the program based on faculty expertise and departmental needs.

Lead or co-lead students on study abroad programs.

Communicate subject matter clearly, correctly and effectively. Use methods, materials, and technology appropriate to the subject matter.

Manage the learning environment by keeping accurate records, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcing school and campus academic policies.

Develop a professional rapport with diverse populations within the university and community.

Maintain an active program of research and scholarship.

Basic Qualifications


  • A PhD in Spanish, specializing in Latin American Literature/ Culture is required.

  • Native/near native proficiency in both English and Spanish is required.

  • Native/near native proficiency in both English and Spanish is required.

  • Commitment to high quality undergraduate teaching.
