Position Summary

The Indiana University Bloomington Libraries seek a creative and enthusiastic individual to join the Department of Teaching & Learning as Learning Commons Librarian. Working in a highly collegial library, the Learning Commons Librarian is responsible for collaborating with library and university partners to envision, develop, and sustain student-centered academic support in the Learning Commons, a dynamic 24/7 environment that fosters learning, research, writing, and use of technology in a collaborative atmosphere. The Learning Commons Librarian will build upon the department’s initiative of integrating information literacy into co-curricular environments by capitalizing upon partnerships with librarians, teaching faculty/instructors, and campus units to provide a rich learning experience for students in the Learning Commons, with an emphasis on addressing targeted needs of undergraduates. The successful candidate has the unique opportunity to help shape the department’s direction by imagining and developing new ways of integrating information literacy into a flexible environment that supports active learning. Candidates who have knowledge and experience with student engagement, pedagogical practices, and collaborative leadership will be given the highest consideration. RESPONSIBILITIES
•Establish and engage in collaborative working relationships with library, campus, and community partners to support the teaching and learning mission of the Learning Commons.
•Develop and maintain knowledge of instructional practices, teaching methodologies, instructional tools, and learning environments.
•Develop, teach, and assess library instruction initiatives.
•Lead a group of campus partners who provide services in the Learning Commons. Build upon these partnerships to develop student-centered learning opportunities and programs.
•Hire, train, and supervise graduate students who provide instructional initiatives in the Learning Commons, including library instruction sessions, tours, and one-on-one research consultations.
•Lead the ongoing and long-term assessment of the Learning Commons’ spaces in order to make informed decisions for sustained success and future innovations.
•Oversee the promotion of library instruction initiatives in the Learning Commons.
•Promote the Libraries’ culture of diversity and inclusion, and support the values outlined in IU Bloomington’s Campus Bicentennial Strategic Plan (https://provost.indiana.edu/strategic-plan/), the Libraries Strategic Plan (https://libraries.indiana.edu/strategicplan), and the Libraries’ Diversity Strategic Plan (https://libraries.indiana.edu/file/diversity-strategic-plan-20162017pdf ).

Basic Qualifications

Required
•ALA accredited master’s degree in library or information science; candidates with an advanced degree in a relevant subject area and appropriate experience in an academic setting will also be considered.
•Minimum of two years of experience with reference and/or instruction in an academic library or higher education.
•Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design, pedagogy, and assessment principles for effective information literacy instruction.
•Demonstrated evidence of designing and implementing student-centered services and instruction.
•Ability to work in a team environment, lead collaboratively, and build working relationships with library and campus colleagues.
•Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse populations.
•Ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a rapidly changing environment.
