Position Summary

The Nelson laboratory is seeking a full time research associate. Efforts in this position will be distributed as 20% laboratory management and 80% research. For laboratory management activities, familiarity with IU ordering, biological safety, chemical safety procedures and prior laboratory management experience are desired. The research associated will also assist and direct some activities of postdoctoral fellows, residents and graduate students in two research projects. The first project involves characterization of urogenital microorganisms in men with sexually transmitted infections. Demonstrated experience in eukaryotic cell culture, pathogenic microbiolology and next generation sequencing is desirable. This research project also requires extensive walking between clinical sites. The second project involves in vitro and small animal studies of virulence mechanisms of intracellular bacterial pathogens. For this project, advanced expertise in molecular microbiology and high throughout microscopy are also desirable. This position absolutely requires willingness to work with clinical specimens, infectious agents and small animal infection models.
