Position Summary

Indiana University School of Nursing (IUSON) is seeking an exceptional candidate for the position of Associate Dean of the Indiana University School of Nursing, Fort Wayne campus. (IUSON-FW). The Associate Dean will provide leadership to IUSON-FW faculty, staff, and students and will collaborate with leaders across the IUSON core school (Indianapolis and Bloomington campuses) and IUSON-FW. IUSON-FW is one of the newly renamed Indiana University Fort Wayne Health Sciences Schools created to build new programing both within IUSON-FW and across the Indiana University Fort Wayne campus. Through exciting partnerships with local high quality hospitals, IUSON-FW will provide both nursing and interprofessional training designed to develop nurses who will provide high quality care to the people of Indiana and the nation. The Associate Dean will be central in developing the vision and mission of IUSON-FW both as a core school within IUSON and as one of the IU Fort Wayne Health Sciences Schools.

The Associate Dean will provide strategic and administrative direction, vision, and leadership to the IUSON-FW. Fostering an atmosphere of open and clear communication, the Associate Dean will engage on leadership teams and boards necessary to facilitate the mission of the school. The Associate Dean assigns faculty responsibilities according to established standards; promotes quality education and scholarship; coordinates course offerings on the campus; prepares and administers program budget; seeks and applies for internal/external funding; and provides information for continued program planning, maintenance, growth and development. The Associate Dean evaluates faculty and staff performance. Dialoging with many external constituents, the Associate Dean leads the fulfillment of the mission and vision of the school, including collaboration with the School’s development director, alumni, and community leaders. As a member of the faculty, the Associate Dean maintains personal academic faculty obligations in teaching, research, and service. The Associate Dean is a member of the Executive Team of the core school, and participates in other university, school and campus boards, committees and faculty governance as elected or appointed.

Basic Qualifications

Qualified applicants must hold an earned doctorate in nursing or a doctorate in a related field with a graduate degree in nursing. Teaching experience in higher education with a record of teaching excellence, innovation and creativity, a record of scholarly achievement, and be licensed or eligible for Indiana RN licensure. Administrative experience and demonstrated excellence in leadership and interpersonal skills are also required. The successful applicant will have a record of scholarship, including a history of success in obtaining external grants, suitable for a senior tenure-track position and appointment as a tenured associate or full professor. Experience with state and national nursing education accreditation standards and approval processes are preferred.
