Position Summary

Indiana University School of Medicine is opening a search for the Chief for the Division of Plastic Surgery within the IUSM Department of Surgery. This position will oversee Academic, Clinical and Research missions in the Academic Health Center in Indianapolis Downtown and Metro areas. This Division has 11 Surgeons covering 8 hospitals in the urban and metro areas of Indianapolis. The Division offers and supports robust residency and fellowship programs. This person will be responsible for activities in a division which encompasses general plastic and reconstructive surgery for pediatric and adult patients, and includes: microsurgery, hand surgery, breast reconstruction, surgery for skin cancer, trauma, the adult and children’s burn units and cosmetic surgery. Services specific to the Riley Children’s Hospital include the surgical management of pediatric plastic surgery conditions, malformations, anomalies and deformities, craniofacial surgery, as well as wound repair and other reconstruction. Overall, the divisional chief is responsible for academic programmatic excellence as a senior faculty leader and in maintaining a financially viable division. The candidate must have credentials that merit appointment as Professor or senior level Associate Professor, tenure track.

Basic Qualifications

Expectations for the Division Chief include, but are not limited to, setting yearly academic goals, conducting annual reviews, involvement in graduate medical education, responsibilities for research activities, division financial performance, budget development, financial and division performance reporting, and collaboration with all other functional groups within the Department of Surgery, IUHP, affiliated hospitals and physician groups.

Further expectations are that the candidate have an MD or equivalent degree, will be a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and will be eligible for licensure in the State of Indiana. The candidate must have at least 5-10 years of outstanding accomplishments in the field of plastic surgery including a long history of publications, funded research grants, previous supervision of medical, residency and staff positions as well as responsibility for group/division/department financial performance.
