Position Summary

The Department of Emergency Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine is seeking qualified candidates for an academic research associate position.

The qualified applicant will have a doctoral degree (PhD, MD or equivalent) and at least 2 years of research experience with a focus on the detailed management and enrollment of patients into multi-center clinical trials, both industry and federally funded.

The successful applicant will:
• Oversee the day to day operations of all AHF (acute heart failure) studies at both Methodist and Eskenazi hospitals, outside of screening and study lead responsibilities
o Be the primary point of contact for all study related questions:
o Represent PI in all aspects of AHF studies and trials
o Operationalize the studies – from protocol to actual daily enrollment. Furthermore, map out how exactly each person within the research team performs their function to optimize AHF enrollment
• Work with research manager and study leads to ensure compliance with all aspects of study
o Start up, budgets, reporting, IRB, OnCore
o Data/metrics on recruitment/enrollment/follow up
 Keep actual-to-goal graphs
o Oversee financials for all PI related studies
• Oversee all multi-center studies and be main operations contact for other sites
o Manage all lab work for PI related biomarker studies, both locally and multicenter
 Periodic inventory with CTSL
o Manage all imaging requirements and clean prior to distribution to Core Imaging Lab
 Facilitate Core imaging lab reporting
o Work with database manager to clean data
o Assist with DSMB meetings and organization to extent possible if blinded
 Aid with multi-center AE/SAE reporting and follow up
 Track all AE/SAE/SUSAR
o Organize study meetings
• Oversee initiation and startup of all industry studies
• Liaise with other departments for industry studies and other collaborations related to AHF or other work related to PI’s clinical research
• Travel may be necessary to other sites for compliance/quality audits
• Personal assistant roles of submission of papers, or other aspects of scholarship
• Handling of routing contracts – working with departmental financial administrative staff – follow up to ensure these are done
• Attend all study meetings, budget negotiations, contracts
• Handle all supplies/logistics issues that arise from PI studies if assistance needed beyond that of research manager
• Screen for patients, at minimum, 8 hours a week
• Must be able to cover both hospitals as needed for patient enrollment
• ‘On-call’ work may be required depending on the nature of the study
• Be primary study lead at either Eskenazi or Methodist Hospital for all AHF studies, meeting all requirements same as all other study coordinators. This may involve up to 10 studies simultaneously

Characteristics for success: Excellent work ethic, disciplined, and highly organized. Experience as a research coordinator is strongly preferred. Familiarity with Cerner and EPIC an added plus. Able to work in fast paced environment. Team player, enthusiastic, can-do attitude, problem solver, critical for happiness at work. Ability to focus on goal, despite other urgent tasks, is a must. Experience with multi-center clinical trials, both industry and federally funded. Comfort with data manipulation, project management, are welcome skills. Flexibility and ability to meet significant peaks/valleys in workloads amidst deadlines is a must; at the same time, maintaining focus and discipline during slower periods will be critically important to smooth out potential peaks/valleys in work.
