The Center for Research in Extreme Scale Technologies (CREST) at Indiana University is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to conduct research and development in efficient and scalable parallel hardware and software computing systems and applications. The anticipated start date for this position is October 1, 2017 (negotiable). This is an annual renewable appointment with extensions subject to performance and funding.

CREST was established in fall 2011 to research new technological approaches that drive advancements in high-performance computing. It is affiliated with the School of Informatics and Computing at Indiana University as well as the IU Pervasive Technology Institute. More information about CREST is available at www.crest.iu.edu
Primary Duties: The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting research, collaborating with colleagues, and mentoring graduate student research progress within the context of currently funded projects and academic programs. Working independently, this position designs, develops, and implements custom devices and electronic hardware to meet research objectives at CREST. This includes specification, circuit design, PCB-fabrication, board population, FPGA-based logic circuits, and integrated circuit design. This position works closely with faculty and research and development staff to meet their research needs. Most critically, this position will be responsible for creating RTL specifications and FPGA simulations of novel processing elements to be used in experimental high-performance computers.
Other Duties Include: Exploring fundamental issues, needs, and solutions for advancing high-performance computing; developing theories and models to solve exascale computing problems; developing and improving software systems; creating new tools and methods; designing and conducting experiments to test the operation of new and improved systems; analyzing the results of experiments; authoring publications, peer-reviewed journal articles, scientific reports, and other products of considerable interest to high-performance computing; presenting results at technical conferences and workshops; and serving on professional and technical committees.

Basic Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, ECE or related field
• Familiarity with parallel processing and cluster environments, architecture, and system software
• Ability to develop and verify digital logic in Verilog and familiarity with FPGA configuration
• Strong programming experience in C and C++ and support environments and libraries
• Research capability, demonstrated both independently and with collaborators
• Strong publication record
• Working knowledge of electrical engineering concepts
• Must work well within a team environment

The ideal candidate will have experience planning and leading research studies in the field of computer science or engineering; a demonstrated ability to obtain external funding for fundamental research projects; experience presenting papers at professional conferences and workshops; and will have contributed to inventions, new designs, or techniques of significance.

Salary and Rank In the range of $70,000 - $80,000
