Position Summary

The School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) at Indiana University-Bloomington invites applications for a tenured faculty position in conservation biology. We seek a renowned scholar for appointment at the rank of Full Professor as part of Indiana University’s Grand Challenge, Prepared for Environmental Change (for a full description see: https://grandchallenges.iu.edu/environmental-change/index.html). This position is one of several new faculty lines created as part of the Grand Challenge; other hires will be in the fields of human ecology, disease ecology, invasive species, environmental modeling and forecasting, conservation law, and environmental communication, among others.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching mission of the School, which could include a graduate-level course in conservation biology and seminars in the candidate’s area of expertise.

SPEA is a multidisciplinary professional school and home to one of the top environmental science and policy programs in the nation. The School is committed to excellence in research, teaching, and service addressing critical issues in environmental science, policy and management (http://www.indiana.edu/~spea/research/index.shtml). The faculty member will have access to the facilities and extensive properties of the IU Research and Teaching Preserve (http://www.indiana.edu/~preserve/index.shtml). Basic Qualifications

The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate degree, an outstanding record of extramural funding, a distinguished record of scholarship and publication in the field of conservation biology, and a demonstrated ability to communicate technical research to policy makers and other non-specialists. The faculty member will be expected to attract funding to support a vibrant research program including training of doctoral students. We are particularly interested in candidates with a research program that addresses interdisciplinary aspects of environmental change and adaption, bridging the natural and social sciences.
