Position Summary

Indiana University South Bend’s Department of Music seeks seek an enthusiastic instructor to conduct the IU South Bend choral ensembles (concert and chamber choirs), teach music education courses, assist in curricular development and supervise the growth of the Music Education undergraduate program, mentor student teachers, serve as a liaison between the music and education departments, develop professional relationships with area school teachers, and teach other courses depending on the candidate’s qualifications and departmental needs.

Teaching load to be up to a 75% full-time (9 credit) load per semester with a 25% release for scholarship/creative activities.

Other responsibilities:

- develop and maintain an active agenda of research and/or creative activity
- recruit, serve on committees, and advise students

Basic Qualifications

- Doctorate in Music (Ph.D. or D.M.A.) preferred, ABD will be considered

The successful candidate will have
- extensive experience in conducting choral ensembles, teaching music at the elementary and/or secondary levels or music education courses at university level
- a successful record of student recruitment for ensembles and/or a clear and effective recruitment plan in place
- a commitment to working with students in a liberal arts setting
- strong musicianship and conducting skills
