Position Summary

The IU Kokomo School of Nursing is currently seeking an Interim Assistant Dean of Graduate Programs. This is a 1-year appointment starting July 1st 2017.

The Assistant Dean for Graduate Program (ADGP) is a nurse educator who is responsible to work collaboratively with School of Nursing (SON) administrators, staff, faculty, and students to manage the day-to-day aspects of graduate program and to support the School of Nursing. The ADGP position is a 12 month/year position and carries a 25% reduction in teaching load. The position is appointed by the Dean and reports to the Dean.

Faculty Responsibilities:
• Performs duties assigned to tenure track/tenured faculty members appropriate to reduced teaching load.

Administrative Responsibilities:
• Plan, develop, facilitate, monitor, and evaluate curricular outcomes in the graduate program in collaboration with faculty and SON administrators
• Lead curriculum development and evaluation for graduate program.
• Lead continuous quality improvement activities in graduate program.
• Serve as chair for the MSN Committee.
• Participate in decision making, communication, and implementation of program policies and Procedures.
• Lead efforts and create final reports for program approval and accreditation.
• Communicate and collaborate with other administrators and the Dean, internal and external constituencies, faculty and students regarding program needs and resources.
• Serve as scheduling officer for the graduate program to establish course schedules. Create course schedules in collaboration with other Assistant Deans approximately 1 year in advance. Review and edit course offerings per the Registrar’s schedule (approximately 6 times per year) and submit each schedule proof to Dean’s Assistant to be forwarded to the Registrar’s office.
• Communicate and collaborate with other Assistant Deans to schedule and staff graduate courses to maximize use of resources and match program needs during the schedule proof process.
• Partner with SON other administrators and staff to support all SON programs, including teaching across tracks/programs as appropriate to benefit the School.
• Serve as advisor to all MSN students in current and future programing.
• Facilitate the organization of all advising activities for all tracks.
• Participate in inter-department activities to facilitate the admission, progression, and graduation of all MSN students.
• Collaborate with faculty and students to adjudicate student issues according to School of Nursing policies.
• Lead marketing efforts to facilitate enrollment.
o Participate in program marketing, student recruitment, and student progression activities.
o Create marketing flyers, admission packets, and all marketing materials as appropriate; as well as, work with marketing to create marketing ads, video’s etc.
o Attend education fairs to promote graduate program.
o Meet with prospective students as necessary for recruitment efforts.
• Provide feedback to the other Assistant Deans and Dean and accept feedback from Assistant Deans and Dean regarding performance of full time faculty teaching in program, as indicated.
• Evaluate faculty (including any adjunct) teaching in graduate courses in collaboration with Dean and other Assistant Deans.
• Assist faculty teaching in graduate program to meet scholarship requirements.
• Supervise and evaluate the MSN Advising Assistant /MSN Clinical Liaison Assistant in consultation with BSN Pre-licensure Track Assistant Dean.
• Publish at least one research article in a peer reviewed journal every three years in area of graduate teaching responsibility (education for nurse educator courses, administration for nurse administrator courses, Family Nurse Practitioner for FNP track).
• Write grants to benefit the program and school.
• Represent the program to the University, School of Nursing, the local community, and the professional community.
• Assist with other activities at the discretion of the Dean including but not limited to:
o Assist in VIP days and other on-campus and off-campus recruitment efforts for campus
o and all programs in the School of Nursing.
o Facilitate orientations and reunions for grades students/alumni.
o Participate in major campus and school ceremonies such as graduations, honors
o ceremonies, graduate hooding, expanded deans meetings, nursing and recognitions, etc.

Qualifications:
• Current unencumbered RN license in Indiana.
• Graduate degree in nursing and earned doctorate In Nursing or related field.
• Eligible for tenure track or tenured.
• Previous experience in nursing education administration desirable.
• Must be able to meet physical requirements pertinent to teaching assignments.
