Position Summary

The Indiana University South Bend School of Nursing invites applications and nominations for the Vera Z. Dwyer Distinguished Chair in Advanced Nursing Practice.

The faculty member in this position will:
-Teach graduate students
-Provide nursing-theory guided patient care services as an advanced practice nurse
-Contribute to the expanding role of advance practice nursing in the college and community, including the IU South Bend Health and Wellness Center
-Provide leadership in the development and implementation of additional graduate nursing programs
-Provide leadership in the area of scholarship as it relates to advanced practice nursing and health care

The purpose of the Dwyer Distinguished Chair in Advanced Practice Nursing is to strengthen the connections between teaching and advance practice through community and/or direct patient care and to contribute to the intellectual growth of students within the School of Nursing. The Dwyer Distinguished Chair will promote scholarship and practice as well as serving as an expert teacher-practitioner within the School.

The position is integral to the implementation of theory-guided, evidence-based advanced nursing practice. The Dwyer Distinguished Chair in Advanced Practice Nursing will have the opportunity to further one’s own advances nursing practice and research, enriching the IU South Bend School of Nursing’s profile locally, nationally, and internationally. It is expected that the Chair will serve a term from one to three years, renewable as appropriate.

The Dwyer Distinguished Chair in Advanced Practice Nursing will be an expert in providing nursing theory-guided health care services and will be a mentor to other faculty by integrating unique nursing knowledge into practice situations with advanced nursing students.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Teaching and Research:

• Contribute to the teaching mission of the university by teaching three graduate courses a year (one each semester including summer), related to
area(s) of expertise
• Assist faculty with refining knowledge and skills related to teaching and learning
• Exhibit national and international visibility within nursing through continuing scholarly and/or creative activities
• Conduct practice and research round table discussions one per month
• Assist students and faculty in writing scholarly articles focused on practice and/or teaching
• Hold open forums for students

Service:

• Practice with individuals, families, and communities within the college and community
• Give a public address for the community once a year
• Confer with area healthcare agencies regarding practice models that integrate the use of advance practice nurses.
• Serve on School, College, University, and Community committees related to area of expertise.

Basic Qualifications

• A research doctorate in nursing
• Certification in an advance practice nursing practice specialty area
• Record of scholarly publications and presentations
• Meets campus qualifications as a clinical professor in nursing
• Licensure as a registered nurse with prescriptive authority in Indiana prior to employment.
