Position Summary

Indiana University School of Dentistry’s Department of Periodontics & Allied Dental Programs, division of dental hygiene invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track clinical assistant professor teaching position.

IU School of Dentistry’s Bachelor of Science dental hygiene program holds the distinction of being the first dental hygiene program in the state. The first class of dental hygienists graduated in1952. This is an inestimable heritage, one that does not limit our emphasis on excellence nor our drive for meeting the needs of the present and future. Being housed within the School of Dentistry affords our students an extraordinary learning environment in which teaching, research and community service are uniquely combined to prepare tomorrow’s dental hygiene professionals.

The successful candidate will have a passion for teaching, strong leadership and team-building skills, and experience with and enthusiasm for the work of community dentistry. This candidate must have the ability to work independently and take initiative to expand upon our community outreach. This clinical assistant professor position will support the department as it broadens utilization of both humanistic pedagogy and inter-professional education among students across multiple healthcare professions.

Major teaching responsibilities include didactic and clinical responsibilities related to the teaching of community dental hygiene and radiology within the dental hygiene division of the Department of Periodontics and Allied Dental Programs. Additional teaching responsibilities will include introduction to dental hygiene courses as part of IUPUI’s summer bridge and themes learning communities.

Other responsibilities include dental hygiene program presentations throughout the academic year with multiple student groups both on and off campus to promote the dental hygiene program. Scholarly activity is a requirement of the position.

Basic Qualifications

The successful candidate must have graduated from a CODA-accredited dental hygiene program and have an active license in Indiana. A Master’s degree in education or dental hygiene related field is required. Grant writing experience is strongly encouraged.
