APHERESIS AND TRANSFUSION MEDICINE FACULTY POSITION
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine seeks a pathologist for the Division of Apheresis Medicine and Cellular Therapy and the Division of Transfusion Medicine. This is a faculty position; rank, administrative and academic duties will be determined by qualifications and experience.
The Divisions are responsible for transfusion services, apheresis as well as cellular therapy processing and adult collection facilities. These activities are provided to Indiana University Health which includes Methodist Hospital, Indiana University Hospital and Riley Children’s Hospital as well as the satellite transfusion services across central Indiana. The division also directs transfusion services at Eskenazi Hospital and the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center. Annually, greater than 100,000 blood products are transfused and approximately 1,800 therapeutic apheresis procedures performed which include plasma and red cell exchanges, photopheresis, and stem cell collections as well as leukocyte and platelet reductions. The pathologists are supported in the apheresis program by a team of two pathologists’ assistants.
The successful candidate will join a group of two transfusion medicine physicians and two physician assistants. The candidate will also be engaged in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. Development in the leadership of service process improvement and blood utilization is expected.

Applicants must have strong clinical skills and a commitment to the academic mission of the School of Medicine and IU Health. Experience in apheresis medicine is highly desirable. Experience in clinical research is desirable but not required. Certification by the American Board of Pathology in clinical pathology is required as is board eligibility or certification in the subspecialty of blood banking/ transfusion medicine.
