Position Summary

The Jacobs School of Music seeks candidates for a two-year, full-time visiting position in music theory for the academic years 2017-2019. The resident scholar will teach one course per semester, and during the first year will also offer a series of workshops in their area of expertise. In addition, they will be expected to conduct an active program of research, resulting in attendance at and participation in scholarly conferences, the submission of articles to academic journals, or other appropriate projects.
We envision this position as a way of enriching the Music Theory Department while providing an opportunity for emerging scholars to develop their work. Preference will be given to applicants whose research interests complement and diversify those of the department. The scholar will work closely with a faculty mentor to develop a concrete plan for engagement with the Indiana University community, and to launch a productive and successful career in the field of music theory.

Basic Qualifications

A completed Ph.D. degree in music is required. Candidates must have completed the Ph.D. from an institution other than Indiana University no later than August 1, 2017, but no earlier than five years prior to that date.

Additional Qualifications
Salary and Rank Visiting Assistant Professor; salary is $42,700 with an annual $2,000 research and travel budget, and eligibility for the health and retirement benefits available to all full‐time faculty.
